Twitter announced that they're doing something similar to My Mentions. It's not surprising. Afterall My Mentions is a service that was created to fill a specific need and make Twitter easier. Twitter actually had something similar back in the "hay day"...anyone remember "track"? Anyway, in case you're wondering if this means the end for @MyMentionscom, we're here to tell you...not exactly.
Here's the breakdown of what Twitter is offering. They will send you @mentions for either (a) people you follow or (b) everyone who mentions you. And you can choose to not get those mentions during a specific time of the day (like when you're asleep or at work and have Twitter up and running in an app). That's it though. We do all of that...plus
- When your "Do Not Disturb" time is over, you'll receive all the @mentions you missed while in DND mode.
- It's not "all or nothing" with us. You can have a "white list" to get @mentions from specific people (regardless of follow status) or set it up as a "black list" to block spammers.
- We have commands you can send through txt. This makes interacting with the service much easier when sending tweets by phone. For example, you want to reply to someone who just sent you an @mention? We have a command that saves you from typing (and remembering the spelling) of their Twitter username. All you have to worry about is the message.
- When you reply to an @mention using MyMentions, we tag your reply to the tweet you're answering. You know those "in reply to ..." tags? We make sure those are intact.
And we're looking to expand our functionality even more. Our Alpha users are helping us with that right now.
In short. We're still here because, just like the various twitter applications on the market today, we take what Twitter does well and expand on it to serve you better!

In the immortal words of Morpheus... "We are still here!"
Was that nerdy enough for ya? Yeah, it’s been a while since our last post. Not going to bore you with the details, but we're still here. We had some bumps in the road earlier this summer. Service was never interrupted, but it wasn't where we wanted it to be. We've been working hard on it though and we're very close to where we need to be.
Why does this matter? Because we have a LOT of people on the waiting list for the private alpha and we're going to be sending out more codes to get in very soon. So watch your inbox! You are on the waiting list...right?
Thanks,
The My Mentions Team

Say you're at a baseball game enjoying one of America's great past times. Chances are you don't want to be checking Twitter every 10 minutes to see if anyone has sent you an @mention or @reply. This is where you'll be glad you signed up with
My Mentions.
You can't have meaningful "conversations" when each response is hours apart. With
My Mentions, we'll notify you if someone mentions you in a tweet so you can just sit back, relax and enjoy the game.
Of course, you don't have to be at a game...maybe you're out running errands or having an evening out with friends. No matter what the case, we've got you covered.

We're hard at work implementing new features. In the past few days we've upgraded our delivery method as well as fully implementing our "whitelist/blacklist" feature.
What's the "whitelist/blacklist" feature you ask? Well...let's say you don't want to get *all* your replies to your phone but you do want to get them from some specific users. No problem, just add those usernames to your "whitelist" and you'll only get those replies. Of course you can always see all your replies on the Twitter site (or your favorite client).
Maybe you're saying "That's great, but it's not my friends I'm worried about, it's just those that annoy the crap out of me." Heh, we've got you covered. Much like the "whitelist" you can add names to your "blacklist" and we'll send you your @ mentions from anyone NOT on that list. Cool huh?
More features are on the way...so stay tuned.

Well... Business might be a relative term :-)
My Mentions has officially begun Alpha phase testing...and we're pretty excited about it. From a spark of an idea to a full blown web application now. It's small and simple yes, but pretty cool for me. My hope is that others will get out of it what I get out of it--the feeling of not being "tethered" to Twitter all the time and the freedom of knowing I don't have to check my @mentions right away. If it grows beyond that, then that's just icing on the cake.
Thanks!
